Lululemon's Brampton Hub Raises the Bar for North American E-Commerce Fulfillment
E-Commerce
Lululemon’s new Brampton, Ontario distribution center is now fully operational, adding a major automated node for e-commerce orders across Eastern Canada and the Eastern United States. The company says the facility spans more than one million square feet and combines 292,000 storage bins with 525 AutoStore robots, supported by eight kilometres of conveyor infrastructure.
The significance goes beyond one retailer’s expansion. Lululemon is concentrating inventory, automation, and cross-border fulfillment in a facility designed to improve speed and flexibility. Supply Chain Dive notes that the company fulfills most U.S. e-commerce sales from Canadian distribution centers, making the location strategically important as tariffs and changes to the U.S. de minimis regime increase the cost and complexity of cross-border flows.
For sellers and operators, the practical lesson is not to imitate the building’s scale. It is to treat fulfillment design as a commercial advantage. Faster storage and picking can shorten order cycle time, but only when inventory placement, carrier routing, and exception handling are designed together.
Operators should review three areas now: which SKUs deserve forward placement near demand, whether cross-border landed-cost assumptions still hold, and where automation would remove the most repeatable bottleneck. Smaller businesses can apply the same logic through regional third-party logistics partners, tighter SKU segmentation, and service-level reporting rather than owning robotics themselves.
The Brampton hub also highlights a useful risk check: a highly automated network can still be exposed to policy and border costs. Sellers should model a domestic-fulfillment alternative for priority products and compare total landed cost—not only warehouse or parcel rates—before committing inventory to a cross-border node.
